Sunnfjord - In the "realm of falling waters"

Sunnfjord lies at the heart of Western Norway with it's starkly contrasting fjord scenery, halfway between Bergen and Ålesund. On their way down to the fjord our three main rivers coming from the glacier forms more than 50 waterfalls. Thats why we also are called the waterfall country. Førde, with 12.000 inhabitants, is the comercial centre of the county.
Førdefestivalen takes place in july each year, and is the largest world music festival in Norway.

Sognefjorden in a nutshell

7 days a week from june 1. to august 31.
On this roundtrip you get it all: Sognefjord, The Flåm Line, National Touristroad Gaularfjell and the Dalsfjord. From Bergen the trip starts by express boat along the west coast to the Sognefjord and further a fjordcruise up the Dalsfjord continues by the bus on the National Scenic Route across the Gaularfjell mountains with fantastic views of waterfalls and wild rapids. Before arriving Balestrand you will have breathtaking views down the hairpin bends to Balestrand. Overnight stay in the Balerstrand and further to Flåm where the famous Flåm Line brings you up to the Bergen/Oslo railway.

Rivers, streams, pools, mountain lakes, inland lakes and watercourses - rushing and cascading waters . The county boroughs of Førde, Gaular, Jølster, Naustdal in Sunnfjord are an Eldorado for sports and hobby fishermen and women - all year round. We ay also be able to help you with salmon, and saltwater-fishing.

Hiking in Sunnfjord gives you marvellous views over the mountains in Waterfall country, the fjords, glacier and sea.
